‘We’re tired, just finish us’ — Protesting Benue women cry out

Women from Agan community in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, took to the streets on Friday to protest what they described as ongoing killings, harassment, and intimidation by armed herders and security forces.
Chanting in grief and holding placards, the Tiv women said they could no longer bear the constant attacks, fear, and silence from authorities.
“Our husbands are being killed by armed Fulani herders,” one of the women said. “We are tired. We can’t go to our farms anymore because they destroy our crops. If they want, let them just finish us.”
The protesters also decried the alleged indiscriminate arrest of their children and family members by security operatives.
“Every day, our children are taken away without any reason. They’ve done nothing wrong,” another woman added. “We can’t sleep in our homes or even under trees. We live in fear.”
The women said they felt abandoned by the government and had nowhere else to turn.
“If the government, the security, and the herdsmen want, they should just come and finish us here. We’re tired,” a protest leader said.
The demonstration caused traffic disruption along the Makurdi–Lafia Road, as the women blocked parts of the highway, demanding urgent government intervention.
They called on both state and federal authorities to address the insecurity and restore peace to their communities before more lives are lost.
