Benue opposition collapsed into APC – Gov Alia

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has declared that all major political structures in the state have been effectively absorbed into the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the party as the dominant force.

Speaking during his first media chat in Makurdi on Thursday, Alia emphasized that his 2023 electoral victory was driven by the people of Benue, not political elites—a dynamic he believes will be replicated in future elections.

“I am a grassroots leader, not one propped up by endorsements or political deals,” he said. “As it stands, we’ve successfully collapsed every other political structure into our party. While smaller parties may try to rise, the majority have aligned with our vision because they see results and feel represented.”

Alia acknowledged that political resistance may still arise from groups whose interests are no longer being served, but maintained that such efforts would not pose a serious threat to the APC’s growing unity and support.

Looking ahead to 2027, the governor expressed confidence in his position.

“Of course, others may aspire to this office, but the real question is—do they have the capacity? Are they truly people-focused? The work we’ve done speaks for itself. The people of Benue are watching, and they know who’s delivering.”

He concluded, “At the end of the day, the power lies with the people—and I stand with them. That’s the campaign.”
