We’ve not paid fuel subsidies for nine years – NNPCL

Amidst the growing controversy, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has clarified that it has not paid any fuel subsidies over the past nine years.

The company’s Chief Financial Officer, Alhaji Umar Ajiya, made this statement on Monday in Abuja.

This clarification comes in response to reports suggesting that the country is still paying fuel subsidies, despite the announcement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in May 2023 that they had been removed.

Ajiya emphasized that the NNPCL has only been addressing shortfalls in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) importation between the company and the federation.

“In the last eight to nine years, the NNPCL has not paid a single kobo to anyone as a subsidy. No individual or entity has received subsidy payments from NNPCL,” Ajiya stated.
