Two prominent human rights advocates have penned a searing open letter to the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Hyacinth Alia, demanding urgent action over what they describe as “deceptive recruitment and sexual exploitation” allegedly orchestrated by a top aide in the state government.

The letter, jointly signed by D’naked Elder Zege’Orkwande and Ukan Kurugh, a gender rights activist, accuses Dr. Mkor Aondona Donatus, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Documentation, Research, and Planning, of gross abuse of power and criminal misconduct.

According to the letter, Dr. Mkor has been accused by multiple credible sources of launching a fake usher recruitment drive, falsely claiming authorization from the governor’s office. The scheme, the authors claim, was used as a cover to lure young women—mostly students and fresh graduates—into sexually compromising situations.

Victims were reportedly selected based on physical appearance, with “slim and attractive” women preferred, while others deemed “chubby” were excluded. The letter reveals chilling accounts of women who were allegedly pressured into providing sexual favors in exchange for non-existent government positions.

Even more disturbing, some of the women have come forward with claims that they were secretly recorded during intimate moments, with nude videos and photographs taken without their consent.

One particularly harrowing case cited involves a victim who rejected further advances from the official. She later received threatening messages containing her nude photos and videos via WhatsApp, which were quickly deleted—allegedly in an attempt to erase evidence. Fortunately, the victim preserved some of the digital material, which has been submitted as part of ongoing complaints.

The letter outlines the criminal implications of the alleged acts, including:

Sexual exploitation and coercion

Illegal recording and distribution of intimate content

Blackmail and criminal intimidation

Fraudulent misrepresentation of government recruitment

The activists are calling on Governor Alia to take immediate steps, including:

Authorizing a special investigation through the police anti-human trafficking and gender violence units

Ensuring the preservation and analysis of all relevant digital evidence

Providing protection and psychosocial support to victims

Implementing stricter vetting procedures for all individuals claiming to recruit on behalf of the state

Issuing a public statement assuring citizens that justice will prevail and that no one is above the law

“This is not only a betrayal of public trust but a direct attack on the dignity of Benue’s daughters,” the letter reads. “We trust in your leadership to ensure justice is served and that such predatory practices are eradicated from our public service.”

The letter concludes with a passionate appeal for swift action, reminding the Governor of his duty to protect the vulnerable and uphold the rule of law.

“May God bless Benue State. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
