Why Labour Party Chairman, Julius Abure was arrested – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has disclosed that Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, was arrested on charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and associated offenses.

Tijani Momoh, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force Zone 5, confirmed Abure’s arrest, stating that it occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

Momoh informed the media that Abure and four others were apprehended based on a written petition against them, without revealing the petitioner’s identity. According to him, the arrest was endorsed by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zone 5, acting on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.

The charges against Abure include attempted murder, conspiracy, illegal possession of arms, and other related offenses. Momoh mentioned the existence of video clips and recordings showing the petitioner being assaulted and beaten during the conduct of ward matters the previous year.

In addition to the serious allegations, Momoh disclosed that the arrested individuals were found in possession of firearms, specifically a short gun and three rounds of ammunition. He assured the public that investigations were ongoing, emphasizing that the arrest had taken place on the same day, and more details would be provided later.
