WWC 2023: Nigeria 3 Australia 2: Super Falcons defeat hosts at Brisbane

Nigeria’s Super Falcons won 3-2 against co-hosts Australia in their Group B encounter at Lang Park, Brisbane, on Thursday.The victory came as a surprise to many, as the Falcons were held to a goalless draw 0-0 against Canada last Friday.

The Australian ladies took the lead in the 45 minute through Van Egmund.

Uchenna Kanu equalized for the Super Falcons in the 46th minute of the extra time after tapping in a deflected volley from Ajibade.Osinachi Ohale from Nigeria headed the ball from close range into the net in the 65th minute to take the Falcons to the front.

Asisat Oshoala found the net with the right foot in the 70th minute to increase the tally to 3-1!

After removing her shirt, the referee is forced to show Asisat Oshoala a yellow card.

Alanna Kennedy from Australia heads the ball home in the 100th minute to reduce the tally to 3-2.
With the victory, Nigeria now top Group B with 4 points.
