Yelewata massacre: List of 127 persons killed in Benue community

A total of 127 individuals have been identified among those killed during the recent massacre in Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, left the entire community in shock and mourning. While the Benue State Government has officially confirmed 59 deaths, local residents insist the number is far higher, claiming that over 300 people were slaughtered in the coordinated assault by suspected armed herders.

One of the residents, Franc Utoo, a lawyer, politician, and native of Yelewata, revealed that he personally lost over 33 relatives and more than 50 political supporters.

Speaking to DAILY POST, Utoo stated that they have so far identified 127 people from the community who were killed, with many more from surrounding villages who had sought shelter there also believed to be among the dead.

Despite repeated calls from community leaders and civil society, the federal government has yet to declare a state of emergency in Benue State. The residents of Yelewata continue to demand justice and stronger security presence to prevent future attacks.
