Zamfara: Bandits attack checkpoint, kill three Policemen
Three policemen lost their lives during an attack on a checkpoint located in the Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state.
According to a reliable source, the policemen were engaged in a routine stop-and-search operation along the Funtua-Gudau Highway when the bandits launched their assault.
The source revealed, “Three policemen were tragically killed, while the driver of the police patrol van and five other policemen managed to escape into the nearby bush for safety.”
He further added, “Although the driver was later found unconscious in the bush and promptly transported to Tsafe General Hospital, the whereabouts of the remaining five policemen remain uncertain. The injured police driver is currently receiving medical care at the hospital, but he remains in an unconscious state.”
The checkpoint, located less than 2 kilometers from Tsafe town, fell under attack at approximately 1 pm. The bandits were reported to have concealed their motorbikes in nearby fields before proceeding on foot to the location, where they fatally assaulted three of the policemen.
Another source who had passed the checkpoint shortly before the attack stated, “I saw them on duty just minutes before the unfortunate incident. The attack occurred only 30 minutes after I had passed the checkpoint.”
As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the police authorities regarding this distressing event, which adds to the growing wave of insecurity in Zamfara.
