2023 presidency: Tinubu may join SDP after DG dumps APC

There are feelers in town that the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu may join the Social Democratic Party, SDP, if he fails to clinch the presidential ticket of the party, IDOMA VOICE reports.

IDOMA VOICE reports that is coming after his campaign director, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa announced his defection from the ruling APC.

Tinubu was among the first presidential aspirants to publicly make his intention known, IDOMA VOICE reports.

His declaration has been greeted with mixed reactions as many Nigerians, especially the youths, believe the former Lagos State governor is too old to pilot the affairs of Nigeria.

Many of them believe that the current situation Nigeria finds herself in was due to President Muhammdu Buhari’s old age and it would be an error to elect Tinubu, who is about the same age to succeed the president in 2023.

At the moment, Tinubu has a lot of aspirants to contend with as about 18 persons have already purchased the N100m APC presidential nomination forms, IDOMA VOICE reports.

Prominent among them are his political godson and current Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Kayode Fayemi, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Governor Badaru, and a host of others.

However, there are feelers that the former Lagos West lawmaker is not in the good book of the party leadership and might not get the ticket.

Sources claimed that the party leadership led by Adulahhi Adamu reportedly told Tinubu that President Buhari is opposed to his presidential aspiration.

With the development, loyalists of the acclaimed Jagaban of Lagos are making a plan B move for Tinubu to return to his former party – PDP.

Tinubu represented Lagos West at the Senate in 1992 on the platform of SDP.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s ruling party All Progressives Party (APC) has set its presidential primaries for May 30-31, a spokesman said on Wednesday.
