2027: God asked me to join APC to help Tinubu, Gov Alia win second terms – Ojema
Ojotu Ojema, Member of the House of Representatives representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on National Inland Waterways, officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday, October 10, 2025.
The high-profile decamping ceremony, held at Government House Makurdi, was described as a total shutdown, with thunderous applause, standing ovations, and jubilant celebrations from party faithful and government officials.
Speaking at the event, Ojema explained that his decision to move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC was guided by divine instruction, as well as a desire to contribute to the continued progress of the state.
“My decision to stand here today is well thought out. It is both service and objective. It is also spiritual,” Ojema declared.
He highlighted his journey of public service, including his tenure as State Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiation Councils, where he championed workers’ welfare and negotiated the historic N30,000 minimum wage. Ojema lauded Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia for ensuring timely payment of salaries to civil servants, describing it as a fulfillment of his long-standing vision for worker welfare.
Ojema further emphasized his alignment with the Governor’s developmental agenda, particularly ongoing road projects linking Agatu and Gwer-West LGAs, which he said would ease political campaigns and spur regional development.
Touching on the spiritual dimension, Ojema stated, “I always seek the face of God before taking any decision. Just as I resigned as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in obedience to God’s directive to contest for the House of Reps, He has now directed me to APC. My movement is for three main objectives: the reelection of President Tinubu, Governor Alia, and myself in 2027.”
He also expressed gratitude to Governor Alia, calling him “a fantastic leader who has proven to the world that he is the best thing to happen to our state,” and described the Governor as his new political father after being disowned by his former party.
