Wike Dares Amaechi: Lead the Revolt with Your Children in Rivers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dared former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to lead the revolt he called for against President Bola Tinubu’s administration—starting from Rivers State and alongside his children.

Wike issued the challenge on Friday while speaking at the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT. The project was inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu.

Reacting to Amaechi’s recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where the former minister urged Nigerians to rise against Tinubu’s government, Wike, a former Rivers State governor, said he was ready to confront Amaechi again politically—just as he did in previous elections.

“I was not even a governor when I stopped some people from imposing their successor,” Wike said. “In 2015, I defeated a sitting governor who wanted his protégé to succeed him. In 2019, I defeated a so-called super minister who was borrowing money from China and got Rivers heavily indebted. He was the Director-General of the President’s campaign at the time, yet couldn’t secure 20 percent of the vote for Mr President in the state.”

Taking direct aim at Amaechi, Wike said: “Now he says Nigerians should come out. Good. Let him lead it. But let him start the revolt from Rivers State—and with his children.”

“It’s not when your children are in London and you’re here telling others to revolt. If you mean it, bring your children and let’s face each other. Then we will know you’re serious.”
