An Idoma woman from Benue State, Hon. Ada Fredrick Okwori, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP) for the 2027 general election, setting her sights on Nigeria’s highest political office.

Okwori secured the party’s ticket through a consensus arrangement during the NDP presidential primary election conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Friday.

The party said the exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and relevant electoral guidelines.

Announcing the result at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Chairman of the Presidential Electoral Committee, Engr. Umar Danjuma Emimamaru, declared Okwori the consensus candidate following what he described as a unanimous endorsement by party members nationwide.

According to the NDP, Okwori’s emergence reflects the confidence of party stakeholders in her leadership capacity and the desire to present an alternative vision for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Party officials described the primary process as transparent, peaceful and a demonstration of internal democracy.

The National Working Committee of the NDP congratulated Okwori on her emergence and called on members, supporters and Nigerians to unite behind the party’s ambition of securing victory at the polls in 2027.

With her nomination, Okwori becomes one of the early contenders in the race for the presidency and a prominent female voice seeking to occupy Aso Rock in the next general election.
