20-year-old man stabbed to death after argument with teenager in Cross River

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested by the police following the death of a 20-year-old man, Uwem Daniel Akpan, in Awi community, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Akpan reportedly sustained stab injuries after an argument with the teenager at about 7:30 p.m. He was subsequently taken to the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar for medical attention but was pronounced dead.

Following the incident, the teenager was taken into police custody. His identity has not been made public because he is a minor, while members of Akpan’s family have reportedly recovered his remains.

The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident and said an investigation had been launched to establish what led to the fatal confrontation.

Police spokesperson ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata said the circumstances surrounding Akpan’s death, as well as the alleged role of the teenage suspect, were being investigated.

According to Akata, the matter would be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Calabar for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The police appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid taking matters into their own hands, assuring that investigators would work to establish the facts surrounding the young man’s death.

The command also urged members of the public to allow the appropriate authorities to handle the case in accordance with the law.
