Ehaje floors Itabono to win Owukpa Unity Cup 2018 (PHOTOS)

The Akanaba of Ehaje on Sunday defeated the Obadabada of Itabono to lift this year’s edition of Ameh Jerry Memorial Cup, otherwise known as Owukpa Unity Cup.

The Ehaje lads came from behind twice to conquer their visitors in the 11-goal thriller match.

Godwin Agbo and Apeh Okoh Peter had put the Firstborns ahead in the first 4 minutes but the game changed in the second half after the introduction of James Anyebe for the Akanaba Boys.

Owoicho Austine again put the visitors ahead in the 75th minute but the hosts responded almost immediately through Mike John.

At the blast of the final whistle, the match ended 3-3, thus making the officials to settle for penalty shootout.

Alex Akogwu was hero of the day after saving two penalties from the visiting team.

Agbo Godwin Obochi and James Anyebe of Akanaba won the Abba Moro’s Award for Best Player of the Tournament and the Idoma Voice Award for Most Valuable Player.

The Akabana FC won the Hon Joe Ojobo’s prize for best team while Obadabada of Itabono won the Ameh Jerry’s Award for Fair Play.

The Ogbadibo Carnival Award for Best Coach went to Apochi Matthew of Akanaba while the Onomo Award for Best Goal-Keeper went to James Akogwu.

Agbo Godwin, Owoicho Elaigwu and John Mark were joint winners of Austin Agada’s Award for highest goal-scorer.

Earlier, Comrade Abba Moro, a former Minister of Interior had warned the youths on the need to shun social vices.
Moro specifically admonished the youths to avoid being use to ferment trouble before, during and after the general elections.

The PDP Senatorial flag bearer in Benue South, who was represented at the event by James Ewaoche, harped on the need for the youths to work for the development of the land.

On his part, the Onagene of Ekere, Chief John Onuh advised the youths to always eschew violence, especially now that the nation approaches another election year.

Engr Emmanuel Attah Ameh received a posthumous medal on behalf of the late Prince Ameh Jerry while Mr. Ocheme Clement (All Rounder) was decorated with the Pillar of Sports in Owukpa Medal)
