Federal University Gusau students, staff regain freedom after 7-months in captivity

Students and staff of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, who bandits abducted, have successfully regained their freedom.

According to Naija News, these individuals were taken hostage during an attack in the Gusau area back in February. After enduring seven months in captivity, they have finally returned alive.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed their release in a social media post, stating: “Abducted students of Federal University Gusau and staff regain freedom.”

Details surrounding their release are still unclear, but sources indicate that security forces played a crucial role in securing their safe return.

Zagazola noted, “The students and staff were kidnapped during a bandit attack in February of this year.”

This news brings much-needed relief to families and the academic community who have been anxiously awaiting the return of their loved ones. Zagazola also reported that all the victims have returned in good health.

In September 2023, it was reported that a large group of bandits had invaded the university’s surrounding areas, abducting numerous students, primarily women. A local resident, Abubakar Sani, recounted that the bandits attacked three dormitories around 4:00 am, overwhelming the students’ living spaces.
