Bayer Leverkusen has expressed concern for their striker Victor Boniface after he shared his distress over the poor treatment he and his Super Eagles teammates endured upon their arrival at Al Abaq Airport in Libya on Sunday.

The Super Eagles were set to face Libya in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Tuesday, following a 1-0 victory in the first leg on Friday.

However, the Nigerian team was stranded at the airport for over 15 hours, leading to frustration among the players.

Boniface took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns, tweeting: “This is getting scary now. You guys can have the points. We just want to return to our country.”

In response, his club, Bayer Leverkusen, replied: “Stay safe, Victor – we’re all thinking of you and your teammates.”

Following the ordeal, the Super Eagles have decided to withdraw from the scheduled match.
