NAFDAC busts fake alcohol drinks production site in Lagos (Photos)
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal site for the production of counterfeit alcoholic beverages on Lagos Island.
In a statement issued on Monday, NAFDAC revealed that its team, acting on a tip-off, discovered a shop on Offin Road in the Balogun area of Lagos Island that had been converted into a facility for producing and packaging fake alcoholic drinks.
The agency’s operatives destroyed various bottles of counterfeit products on-site, while confiscating packaging materials, empty bottles, and repackaged drinks. The total value of the destroyed and seized goods is estimated to exceed N30 million.
NAFDAC has launched further investigations into the matter and urged consumers to purchase alcoholic beverages only from trusted vendors. The agency also encouraged the public to report any suspicious products or activities to their nearest NAFDAC office.
Last month, NAFDAC dismantled another illegal alcohol packaging operation at Article Market in the Abule-Osun area of Lagos, seizing over 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials, valued at around N2 billion. Additionally, NAFDAC uncovered a warehouse in Oke-Afa, Okota, Lagos, filled with unregistered and expired supermarket products.
