The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a three-month ultimatum for all foreigners with expired visas to leave the country or face stiff penalties.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) made the announcement in a statement released on Friday, May 2, 2025, and signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi.

According to the statement, the grace period runs until August 1, 2025, after which overstaying will attract a daily fine of $15, and could result in up to a five-year entry ban or permanent blacklisting, effective September 2025.

“The 3-month grace period allows foreigners with expired visas to exit Nigeria without penalty, ending August 1st, 2025,” the statement said.

In addition, the NIS announced the introduction of a mandatory online landing card for inbound travelers and an exit card for outbound travelers. Both are now accessible via lecard.immigration.gov.ng.
