102nd NEC meeting: PDP will bounce back in 2027 – Senator Abba Moro
Senator Abba Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District and serves as Senate Minority Leader, has applauded the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for successfully addressing the lingering internal challenges within the party.
Speaking during a live interview on Arise Television on Monday, following the 102nd NEC meeting, Senator Moro praised the collective wisdom of PDP leaders and stakeholders, noting that their decisions have brought stability to the party as it prepares for its National Convention in November in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to him, the PDP has always possessed structures to resolve disputes, stressing that the party was now firmly on course for the upcoming convention.
Commenting on the zoning of the presidential ticket to the South, Senator Moro said the choice was guided by equity, justice, and fairness.
He recalled that the party erred in 2023 by presenting a northern candidate after President Buhari’s eight-year administration, adding that the PDP had resolved not to repeat that error in the 2027 elections.
Addressing concerns about the readiness of the South to field a strong contender, the Senate Minority Leader expressed confidence that the PDP would present a candidate capable of standing toe-to-toe with the ruling APC in the next presidential race.
On the work of the party’s disciplinary committee, Senator Moro explained that its report was not before the National Working Committee but emphasized that reconciliation remained a greater priority than punitive measures.
“If reconciliation can give us peace, why discipline?” he queried.
Reaffirming his long-standing membership in the PDP, Senator Moro pledged loyalty to the party.
He expressed confidence that the PDP would bounce back and reclaim power in 2027, urging Nigerians to continue to believe in the party as a credible alternative for the nation’s future.
