A pregnant woman was tragically killed by a stray bullet on Saturday evening during a chase involving soldiers attached to Operation Delta Sweep and suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo Boys,” in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

A viral video circulating on social media showed the victim, dressed in a blood-soaked white shirt, being rushed into a vehicle by a uniformed officer in a desperate rescue attempt.

Eyewitnesses said the soldiers had earlier flagged down the suspects for a search, but the young men allegedly ignored the order and sped off.

The soldiers reportedly opened fire while giving chase, with one of the bullets striking the woman, who died before she could be taken to the hospital.

The incident sparked immediate outrage, as residents, indigenes, and students of the community poured into the streets in protest, accusing the soldiers of recklessness and abuse of power.

Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, for confirmation proved unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
