SAD END: Deborah Okwori laid to rest amid tears in Benue
The remains of slain interior designer, Deborah Eneyi Okwori, popularly known as Deb’rah Porsche, were on Wednesday laid to rest in her ancestral home of Ugaga Ohuhu Owo, Oju Local Government Area of Benue State.
Okwori, a graduate of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, was allegedly stabbed to death in Lagos by her estranged lover, Lintex Ogale, who reportedly broke into her apartment and attacked her. Family sources said she sustained over 20 stab wounds before she was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where she later died.
Her body, which departed Lagos on Tuesday, arrived in her hometown at midnight ahead of the burial rites. The funeral drew relatives, friends, classmates, and sympathizers, who wept uncontrollably over the loss of the 30-year-old designer.
Her grief-stricken mother could not hold back tears as she watched her daughter’s casket being lowered into the grave, lamenting that Deborah “did not wait to dance at her funeral.”
Close friends, including Joy Simon, who graduated with the deceased, described her as hardworking, ambitious, and full of dreams, saying her tragic death was “a helpless moment no one should ever experience.”
She wrote, “I have never felt this helpless in my life. This LINTEX guy just messed up our lives. Lord I ask for your strength now like never before. Please help us.”
Deborah’s father, Dr. Moses Okwori, called for justice, insisting that the full weight of the law must be brought upon the suspect, who is currently in police custody.
