Troops arrest fake policemen with cannabis-laden hilux in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended two suspects posing as policemen with vehicles filled with cannabis in Taraba State.

The arrest was made in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as part of ongoing security operations tagged *Operation Lafiya Nakowa.

Acting on credible intelligence, the joint team intercepted the suspects at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area.

The men, clad in mobile police uniforms, were in possession of two Toyota Hilux trucks stacked with substances believed to be cannabis.

Investigations revealed that the vehicles had been loaded in Akure, Ondo State, and were en route to Adamawa before they were intercepted.

The arrested suspects include 71-year-old Monday George, a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche.

Troops also reported that occupants of the second Hilux abandoned the vehicle and escaped when sighted.

In total, 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered. Both the seized exhibits and the arrested men have since been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commending the operation, Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the synergy between the Army and the NDLEA, stressing that the Brigade remains resolute in its mission to rid Taraba of criminals and drug traffickers. He also appealed to residents to continue providing reliable information that will aid ongoing security operations across the state.
