Five siblings drown as boat capsizes in Agatu

Tragedy struck in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday evening when five siblings lost their lives in a boat accident at Obagaji, the local government headquarters.

According to eyewitnesses, the children were on board an overloaded boat with their father when it capsized midstream. While the man was rescued, all five of his children drowned before help could reach them.

The sad incident has plunged the Obagaji community into deep mourning, as sympathizers thronged the bereaved family’s residence to console the grieving father.

Residents have since called on authorities to enforce strict safety measures on waterways to prevent future occurrences.
