The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has announced the passing of one of Nigeria’s foremost evangelists and faith leaders, Evangelist (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, who went to be with the Lord at the age of 80.

In an official statement signed by Bishop Francis Wale Oke, National President of the PFN, the fellowship expressed deep sorrow over Ukpai’s transition but also gratitude to God for a life of remarkable impact and unwavering service to the Christian faith.

“We announce with a deep sense of loss, yet with gratitude to God, the passing unto eternal glory of God’s Servant, Evangelist (Dr.) Uma Ukpai,” the statement read.

According to PFN, Ukpai’s death comes at a time when the fellowship is preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary (PFN @ 40).

The leadership, however, described the timing as divinely orchestrated, reaffirming that “God’s time remains the best.”

“Pa Uma Ukpai was not only one of the founding voices of the Pentecostal movement in Nigeria but also a father in the faith, a trailblazing evangelist, and a unifying force in the Body of Christ,” the statement added.

Recognizing his lifelong dedication to soul-winning, revival crusades, and interdenominational harmony, the PFN announced that its upcoming PFN @ 40 Thanksgiving and Celebration will be officially dedicated to his memory as an expression of national thanksgiving to God for the gift Ukpai was to this generation.

The fellowship extended heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, and the global Christian community, praying for the comfort and strength of the Holy Spirit during this period of mourning.

“To God alone be the glory for a life well spent in His service,” Bishop Wale Oke concluded.

Evangelist Uma Ukpai was widely regarded as one of the pioneering figures of the Pentecostal revival movement in Nigeria, known for his evangelistic crusades, interdenominational ministry efforts, and commitment to the unity of the church.
