Ex-Benue Lawmaker, Hon. Elias Ekpiri buried amid tears, tributes in Utonkon
Utonkon, Benue State — The remains of former Benue State lawmaker, Hon. Elias Ekpiri, were laid to rest in his hometown of Rijo, Utonkon, in Ado Local Government Area, following a series of memorial services that drew family, friends, and dignitaries.
IDOMA VOICE reports that Hon. Ekpiri passed away on September 3, 2025, at the age of 79. The late legislator was widely celebrated for his contributions to public service and the development of his constituency.
The final journey began on November 6 at his Makurdi residence, where friends, colleagues, and community leaders paid glowing tributes, remembering him as a man of integrity, humility, and dedication.
A Requiem Mass was held on Friday, November 7, at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Catholic Church, New GRA, Makurdi, before his remains were transported to Rijo, Utonkon, for a Vigil Mass and Service of Songs.
The Funeral Mass took place on Saturday, November 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rijo, followed by interment at the family home, where relatives and community members bid farewell to the late statesman amid tears and heartfelt tributes.
Throughout the ceremonies, mourners, especially his children and relatives, recounted Hon. Ekpiri’s commitment to public service, his role in advancing development in his constituency, and his enduring legacy in Benue State politics.
