Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued an abducted victim, neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered a single-barrel gun during a coordinated operation.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

According to the statement, the victim was kidnapped on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Babaseyi said the command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical assets to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.

He explained that through sustained intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance and continuous operational pressure on the criminal gang, the victim regained freedom unharmed on June 18, 2026.

The police spokesperson added that the command intensified follow-up operations to ensure the suspects did not escape justice, leading operatives to the gang’s hideout.

According to him, the suspects opened fire upon sighting the operatives in a desperate attempt to evade arrest. The officers responded, neutralising two of the kidnappers, while other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot wounds.

A search conducted on one of the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun. Further examination of the scene also yielded one expended cartridge, a mobile phone and N2.2 million in cash, believed to be proceeds of criminal activities.

“The successful operation is a testament to the effectiveness of the intelligence-driven and proactive crime-fighting strategies being vigorously pursued by the Ogun State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, in ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state,” the statement read.

Babaseyi said the command has intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing gang members as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the gallantry, professionalism, courage and operational effectiveness of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, noting that the success reinforces the command’s determination to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals.

He reiterated that Ogun State would remain hostile territory for criminal elements and assured residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, robust tactical operations and strategic partnerships with communities to safeguard lives and property.
