Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Sunday, November 23, raised serious concerns over what he described as a “rising tide of kidnappings, killings, and institutional breakdown” across Nigeria, warning that the nation is bleeding due to negligent and unresponsive leadership.

Obi argued that the country’s crises are not mysterious occurrences but the direct result of leaders who fail to value human life, prioritising political interests over citizens’ safety.

In a statement shared via his official 𝕏 handle titled “Is Nigeria Cursed, or Are We the Curse?”, the former Governor of Anambra State emphasized that no nation can endure the level of indifference, excuses, and absentee leadership currently evident in Nigeria.

“Our country is not suffering by chance, but because of collective leadership failures that allow insecurity, lawlessness, and institutional decay to thrive,” Obi said.

Obi list 10 Days of Tragedy Across Nigeria

  1. 11/11/25 – Six senior directors from the Ministry of Defence were kidnapped along the Kogi axis, showing that even those tasked with national security are at risk.

  2. 15/11/25 – A Brigadier General was brutally executed, underlining the dangers facing both civilians and security personnel.

  3. 16/11/25 – 64 civilians, including women and children, were abducted in Zamfara, with lives lost in the attack.

  4. 17/11/25 – 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped in Kebbi State, with their Vice Principal killed, highlighting the threats to the nation’s future.

  5. 18/11/25 – Worshippers at a church in Kwara State were attacked, with fatalities and 38 people abducted, turning a place of prayer into a scene of terror.

  6. 18/11/25 – At the PDP Wadata Plaza headquarters, security agencies worsened an already tense situation, undermining democracy rather than protecting citizens.

  7. 18/11/25 – During the All Nigeria Judges’ Conference, judges were seen standing while the APC partisan anthem played, eroding trust in institutions meant to uphold the rule of law.

  8. 19/11/25 – Soldiers on a mission to rescue Kebbi State abducted schoolgirls were ambushed, showing the lack of adequate support for security forces.

  9. 21/11/25 – Over 300 students and 12 teachers were kidnapped from a Catholic school in Niger State, sparking nationwide outrage.

  10. 22/11/25 – Farmers in Kaduna were attacked, with one killed, while on 23/11/25, terrorists ambushed and killed five police officers, injuring two, in Bauchi State.

Obi also noted that on the same day, 13 female farmers were abducted in Askira-Uba LGA, Borno State, by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

“No serious nation can survive on excuses, apathy, or absentee leadership,” Obi said. “Nigeria’s suffering is the direct result of leaders not valuing human life. Our nation is bleeding because those elected to protect it have chosen comfort over courage, politics over people, and power over purpose.

“Leadership is not a title; it is a duty to protect every child, every community, and every citizen. We need competence, compassion, and a government that shows up when it matters the most.

“To every Nigerian affected by these events, my heart is with you. You deserve safety. You deserve peace. We deserve a government that values lives above politics. Nigeria can rise again. A New Nigeria is possible.”
