NAFDAC raises alarm over fake Kiss condoms in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sounded the alarm over the widespread circulation of a counterfeit brand of condoms known as Kiss, warning that the fake products pose serious public health risks.

In Public Alert No. 042/2025 released on Monday, December 29, 2025, the agency said intelligence provided by DKT International Nigeria indicated that counterfeit versions of the condom are being sold in major markets across the country. The affected locations include Onitsha, Idumota, Trade Fair, Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe, Enugu, and several other areas nationwide.

NAFDAC warned that the fake condoms fail to meet required safety and quality standards and could expose users to infections, allergic reactions, and product failure. The agency noted that the products may also give users a false sense of protection against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.

According to NAFDAC, the counterfeit products can be distinguished from the original by several features, including darker packaging, incorrect manufacturer information, absence of storage instructions, inconsistent barcodes, poorly printed user guides, and noticeable differences in condom shape, size, and lubrication.

The agency said it has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to step up market surveillance and ensure the removal of the fake condoms nationwide.

NAFDAC further advised members of the public to purchase medical products only from authorised outlets and encouraged Nigerians to report any suspected counterfeit or substandard products to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free helpline.
