A survivor of the Saturday evening attack on a Benue Links bus in Otukpo, Benue State, has recounted the terrifying moments gunmen opened fire on passengers, saying those on board feared they would not make it out alive.

IDOMA VOICE reported that unknown gunmen attacked a fully loaded Benue Links vehicle travelling from Makurdi to Lagos.

The bus was ambushed a few minutes after leaving Otukpo town, around the Burnt Bricks area, where the assailants reportedly opened fire indiscriminately, leaving three passengers with gunshot injuries.

Speaking after the attack, one of the survivors described how the incident occurred between two security checkpoints along the Otukpo axis.

“We are on our way to Lagos, around Otoko axis, in between two checking points. We were attacked by armed robbers.

They kept shooting, shooting, shooting non-stop. They shot three people in the process.

And from there, we came to Otoko Teaching Hospital for treatment. So we thank God for life.We thank God for life.

Like I’m in a shock stage right now. So I can’t say much.”

It was earlier gathered that the injured passengers were rushed to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo, where they are currently receiving treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police regarding the attack.
