Suspected herders have allegedly carried out a fresh assault on the Sham-Ior community, headquarters of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving two people dead.
According to residents, the attack happened in the early hours of Sunday, triggering panic as villagers fled to surrounding communities in search of safety.
A local source disclosed that the attackers stormed the area and began shooting indiscriminately, killing two individuals instantly and leaving several others injured.
The source further noted that the incident resulted in the destruction of farmlands and properties, deepening the already dire humanitarian conditions facing the community.
At the time of this report, daily activities in Sham-Ior remained at a standstill as residents appealed to both state and federal authorities to intensify security measures to shield rural settlements from persistent assaults.
