2027 Benue guber: Why I won’t support Idoma candidate against Alia — Otukpo/Akpa lawmaker Angbo Kennedy
A member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Kennedy Angbo, has declared that he will not back any Idoma aspirant for the governorship of Benue State in the 2027 general election.
Angbo, who represents Otukpo/Akpa State Constituency, said the agitation by people of Benue South Senatorial District for the state’s top political position should be deferred until 2031, insisting that the present political arrangement must be respected.
The Idoma ethnic group, which dominates Benue South (Zone C), has consistently called for power rotation to the zone, having never produced a governor since the state was created. However, the lawmaker maintained that the current period is not suitable for such a demand.
Addressing journalists at his Makurdi residence, Angbo, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said his position was guided by the need for continuity in governance. According to him, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia should be allowed to complete a second term to consolidate on his administration’s policies and programmes.
Angbo explained, “The reason is simple: we must allow the incumbent to complete a second tenure. While it may not be written in law that a sitting governor must serve eight years, it is a tested political tradition that fosters stability.”
Reaffirming his stance, the lawmaker ruled out any form of compromise ahead of the 2027 election, stressing that his loyalty remains with the incumbent governor.
He stated, “I, Angbo Kennedy, representing Otukpo/Akpa, would not endorse any individual besides the current governor for 2027. That is my emphatic position. I will not negotiate with any other person or interest.”
