Troops respond to distress call, foil suspected kidnap attempt in Benue

Troops of Sector 1 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have foiled a suspected kidnap attempt after responding to a distress call from communities in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on July 14, when soldiers stationed at Kyado received information that suspected kidnappers were operating in Azendachi and Atsaam wards of the council area.

Following the alert, the troops swiftly mobilised to the affected communities, forcing the suspected kidnappers to flee before they could carry out the planned operation.

During the response operation, security personnel recovered three motorcycles allegedly abandoned by the fleeing suspects.

The sources said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the suspects, while troops have intensified patrols and area domination operations to prevent further criminal activities and enhance security in the affected communities.
