2027: Why governors are defecting to APC – Gov Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has explained why many state governors across Nigeria are leaving their political parties to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Tuesday, Sule said the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu are the major factor driving the wave of defections.

He noted that several governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have recently moved to the APC, including Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.

According to him, the defections should not be seen as a crisis or betrayal, questioning why political parties become alarmed whenever governors switch allegiance.

“Why do the political parties panic when the governors are leaving, and their departure does not mean anything? Why does the governors’ departure become a betrayal or a problem?

“As at yesterday, we welcomed the 29th governor; that is the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang.

The governor of Taraba will also be received officially into the party in the next two days.

“More governors are joining the APC because of the impact they have been able to make, driven by the reforms of President Tinubu.

“If you go to every state in Nigeria, you will see major changes as a result of the improved revenue that these governors are getting,” Sule said.
