A popular Otukpo-based disc jockey, popularly known as DJ Orlando, has been hospitalised after he was brutally attacked at a wedding ceremony in Otukpo, Benue State.

The incident reportedly occurred when the DJ declined to play at an after-wedding party, explaining that the initial agreement reached with the couple did not cover additional entertainment after the main event.

Sources said that while attempting to renegotiate the terms with the couple, members of the bride’s family allegedly descended on the DJ, assaulting him with broken bottles and other dangerous objects.

DJ Orlando reportedly sustained severe head injuries during the attack.

In an attempt to escape, he was said to have run into the bride’s father’s room for safety, but was allegedly pushed out and left at the mercy of his attackers.

He was eventually rescued and rushed to a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Following the incident, both the bride and groom, who is reportedly from Cross River State, were said to have left Otukpo shortly after the attack, allegedly to avoid possible arrest or questioning.

The incident has sparked outrage within the Idoma community, with residents and rights advocates calling on security agencies to investigate the attack and bring those responsible to justice.

As of the time of filing this report, the Benue State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
