The naira on Thursday slipped against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market, marking its first depreciation this week.

Figures released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the local currency weakened to ₦1,353.66 per dollar, compared to ₦1,348.95 recorded previously.

This reflects a daily loss of ₦4.71 against the greenback.

The latest drop nearly wiped out the ₦5.51 gain the naira recorded at the official window over the past three days.

Meanwhile, at the parallel market, the naira strengthened further, gaining ₦5 to close at ₦1,440 per dollar on Thursday, up from ₦1,445 the day before.

The improvement was linked to recent interventions by the apex bank in support of Bureau De Change operators.

The development comes amid rising external obligations, as Nigeria’s foreign debt increased to $47.53 billion as of February 10, 2026, according to data from the CBN.
