Idoma Day: Ochigbo calls for unity, cultural preservation
The National Democratic Party (NDP) governorship candidate in Benue State, Hon. Matthew Ochigbo, has commended the organisers of Idoma Day Abuja 2026 for successfully hosting what he described as a historic celebration of the Idoma people’s culture, unity and identity.
Speaking on Saturday at the maiden edition of the event held at the Old Parade Ground, Garki, Abuja, Ochigbo praised the organising committee for bringing together Idoma sons and daughters from across Nigeria and the diaspora under one platform.
He described the celebration as a bold initiative that deserves the support of every well-meaning Idoma son and daughter, pledging his commitment to helping sustain and expand the annual event.
The NDP governorship candidate noted that Abuja has become a second home to many Idoma people, who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of the Federal Capital Territory while remaining connected to their roots.
According to him, the annual celebration provides an avenue for the Idoma people to showcase their rich cultural heritage, strengthen their unity, and inspire younger generations to take pride in their identity.
Ochigbo called on Idoma people, irrespective of political, religious or social differences, to continue supporting initiatives that promote peace, cultural preservation and the collective progress of the Idoma nation.
He reaffirmed his readiness to partner with the organisers to ensure that Idoma Day Abuja grows into one of the foremost cultural events in Nigeria, attracting greater participation and recognition in the years ahead.
