Tunji Disu: Profile of 23rd Inspector-General of Police
Olatunji “Tunji” Disu, a seasoned officer in the Nigeria Police Force, has been appointed as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun.
Born on 13 April 1966 in Lagos Island, Lagos State, Disu has built a distinguished career over more than three decades of service.
Disu holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Lagos State University (LASU) and Master’s degrees in Public Administration and Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology.
He has also undergone extensive professional training in areas including forensic investigations, internet fraud, small arms smuggling, and strategic leadership.
Since joining the police in 1992, Disu has held several key positions.
He served as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, where he led urban crime reduction initiatives, and later as Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), succeeding the late Abba Kyari.
He has also served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, overseeing major security operations and public safety.
Most recently, he was posted as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
Disu is widely recognized for his zero-tolerance approach to corruption, focus on professionalism, and efforts to strengthen investigative capacity within the force.
He has received multiple accolades, including Commissioner of Police of the Year, and is regarded as one of the most capable leaders in Nigeria’s police hierarchy.
