Kogi: Concerned Christian Youth Forum averts potential religious crisis in Ayingba, Dekina
The Concerned Christian Youth Forum (CCYF) played a pivotal role in preventing a serious religious crisis that could have resulted in irreparable harm to lives and property in Ayingba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Last week, a young woman named Victoria David was intercepted by a group of Muslim youths near the Ayingba Central Mosque as they prepared for Friday prayers. Victoria was riding on a motorcycle (okada) when the road leading to the mosque was temporarily closed. The youths instructed her to cover her hair, to which she responded that she was a Christian and noted that many other okadas were also turning back. Angered by her statement, the youths slapped her, and others nearby joined in assaulting her.
A passerby captured the incident on video and shared it on social media, drawing widespread attention.
Upon learning of the event, the CCYF acted swiftly by engaging with relevant authorities, including Ogohi Ayingba, the paramount ruler of Ayingba, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ayingba chapter, and Victoria herself. A security meeting was promptly convened, during which the youths involved were identified by the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque. An apology was subsequently tendered to Victoria and her family on behalf of the Muslim community.
The CCYF continues to handle numerous sensitive matters discreetly across the country to promote peace and harmony.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
