2027: ‘I want to be part of history’ – Jubril Oche Ekwote joins Okpokwu State Assembly race
A frontline aspirant, Comrade Jubril Oche Benard Ekwote, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Okpokwu State Constituency seat in the Benue State House of Assembly in the 2027 general elections.
Ekwote made the declaration last Saturday, March 21, 2026, when he hosted members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Amejo Council Ward at his country home in Ogene-Amejo, Okpokwu Local Government Area.
Addressing party faithful and supporters, the aspirant said his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to governance and support the ongoing administration of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
According to him, his ambition goes beyond seeking political office, describing it as a commitment to be part of a legacy-driven government focused on development and progress in Benue State.
“I want to be part of history and contribute to the team that is repositioning Benue for growth and development,” Ekwote stated.
He noted that having spent years advocating for good governance and accountability, the time had come to move from the sidelines into active participation in leadership.
“We have been on the sidelines, speaking and advocating. Now, we believe it is time to step onto the field and make direct impact,” he said.
Ekwote pledged to prioritize grassroots development and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the people of Okpokwu if elected.
He also dismissed speculations that a preferred candidate had already been endorsed for the seat, urging his supporters to remain focused and undeterred.
“Power comes from God. We will continue to consult widely, mobilize support, and trust in God for victory,” he added.
