2027: Those who left PDP lack leadership traits like Peter Obi — Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has likened politicians who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Wike said Obi contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party but failed to demonstrate leadership during the party’s internal crisis, opting instead to leave.
Speaking on Sunday at the national convention organised by his faction of the PDP, Wike argued that such actions reflected a lack of leadership qualities.
“I liken those who defected from the PDP to the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party; they lack leadership traits,” Wike said.
“The former candidate of the Labour Party wanted to be president. The Labour Party gave him the platform, but when a crisis came in the Labour Party and he was supposed to show leadership, he ran away because he could not solve problems,” he added.
Wike’s faction proceeded with its national convention despite a pending case at the Supreme Court over an Appeal Court ruling that nullified the Oyo national convention conducted by the faction led by Kabiru Turaki and backed by Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde.
The FCT minister has consistently maintained that the PDP would not field a presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections but would instead support the second-term bid of President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him as FCT minister.
