The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Bassey Otu, Awade Friday, over his alleged link to the “sudden and unnatural” death of a social media influencer, identified as Mr. Abel.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, confirmed the arrest to journalists in Calabar on Friday morning.

Akata said the aide is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and is assisting with ongoing investigations.

“He is under our custody in State CID. He is helping us with an ongoing investigation,” he stated.

Awade, a popular radio programme anchor in Calabar before his appointment, has been actively mobilising support for Governor Otu’s re-election bid for a second term.
