Crowds soon gathered at the location, with many expressing deep sorrow and anger over what they termed a disturbing and cruel incident.

“It is painful. How can someone do this to a newborn?” a resident lamented, calling on the authorities to act swiftly.

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns about cases of abandoned babies across parts of the country, often linked to economic challenges, social stigma, and inadequate support systems.

Residents are demanding a full investigation to identify those responsible and ensure such tragedies do not happen again.

As of the time of filing this report, officials of the police and other relevant agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident, as calls to the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, were not returned.
