The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two pupils who were allegedly kidnapped by an unidentified tricycle operator while returning home from school in Nsulu Community, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

The command said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Isiala Ngwa North had received a report of the incident and that an investigation was already underway.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the development and said investigations into the incident had commenced.

According to Chinaka, preliminary findings showed that the pupils accepted a ride from a tricycle operator after they were caught in the rain while returning from school.

She explained that the tricycle rider later stopped during the journey and claimed he had run out of fuel.

The suspect reportedly handed ₦1,000 and a jerrycan to the older children, asking them to buy fuel for him.

However, when the children returned, they discovered that the tricycle operator had disappeared along with the two younger pupils who had remained in the vehicle.

“He brought out one thousand naira and a jerrycan and gave the elder ones the money to get fuel for him.

“Having gotten it and come back, they could neither find the tricyclist nor the two younger ones they left in the vehicle,” the police spokesperson said.

She assured that efforts were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and rescue the abducted children.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Umuosu Development Association, Barrah Chiedozie, also confirmed the abduction in a statement issued over the weekend.

He said the two pupils were yet to be found, while the search for their whereabouts continues.
