Transfer: Newcastle reject Arsenal’s offer for Bruno Guimaraes
Arsenal have seen their opening bid for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes rejected as negotiations between the two Premier League clubs continue.
According to Sky Sports, the Gunners remain in direct talks with Newcastle over a potential deal for the Brazilian midfielder.
The report added that Arsenal are internally discussing whether to submit an improved offer after their initial bid was turned down.
Guimaraes has already returned to Spain to join Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in La Manga.
The 28-year-old is also reported to have informed Newcastle’s hierarchy of his desire to join Arsenal this summer.
Despite the player’s reported stance, Newcastle are keen to retain their captain. Guimaraes has two years remaining on his current contract, with the club holding the option to extend it by a further year.
