Shettima arrives New York for 81st UN General Assembly

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New York to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Shettima said Nigeria’s engagements at the UN would be guided by national interest, multilateralism and President Bola Tinubu’s push for reforms of global institutions.

Speaking on arrival, the Vice President said Nigeria would advocate for more representative and equitable global institutions.

“Our message in New York is clear. Nigeria believes in multilateralism, but the institutions that govern our world must become more representative, equitable and responsive to the realities of today,” he said.

Shettima arrived alongside Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of State for Budget, Doris Uzoka-Anite, and other senior government officials.

During the General Debate, the Vice President is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement.

He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with world leaders on reform of the international financial architecture, climate finance and stronger African representation in global decision-making.
