Benue PDP group raises alarm over alleged protest against Wike’s coalition

A group within the Benue chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has raised concerns over an alleged plan to organise a protest against the Rainbow Coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The group, known as the Benue PDP New Generation Movement, made the allegation in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Austin Adanwo.

The group accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Benue State Government of being behind the alleged protest.

It urged the APC and the state government to abandon the alleged plan, saying political differences should not be allowed to disrupt peace in the state.

The group also called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services, DSS, to ensure that security personnel and resources were not used for partisan activities or actions capable of causing a breach of the peace.

Reacting to the allegation, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Benue State, Benedict Yawe, said the party was not aware of any planned protest.

Yawe also dismissed the allegation as an attempt by the PDP group to gain political relevance.

“We are not aware of such planned protest. Secondly, Benue PDP and its groups are desperately looking for relevance and as such they can raise false alarm to also look for popularity because the opposition PDP is not popular in the state,” he said.
