Abia monarch, Eze Kalu Ukoha dies at 89 after 35 years on throne

The Paramount Ruler of Ebem Ohafia Ancient Kingdom in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Eze Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, has died at the age of 89.

The monarch, who spent 35 years on the throne, died on Saturday, September 26, 2026, according to the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU) and the Ebem Ohafia Council of Chiefs and Elders.

The community’s Publicity Secretary, Ifeanyi Okali, confirmed the death in a statement made available to journalists.

Until his death, Eze Ukoha served as the Ezieogo and Paramount Ruler of Ebem Ujuruezie, Ohafia, as well as Kpoke I of Ekeluogo Ebem Autonomous Community.

The traditional ruler was credited with promoting peace and stability in the community throughout his reign.

He also campaigned against drug abuse among youths and supported efforts to tackle criminal activities in the area.

The late monarch was further recognised in Abia State for his stance against criminality, including his refusal to confer traditional honours on people suspected of involvement in crime.
