Otukpo youths under fire for asking contractors to bribe them with N10m before going to site

The youths of Otukpo, Benue State, have been at the receiving end of harsh criticism after staging a protest to the local government secretariat demanding N10m from Rockbridge Contractors.

Rockbridge are the contractors handing the construction of Otukpo township road.

Following public outcry, they have agreed to return to site but youths in the area want the contractors to pay them N10m before they commence work.

However, they got more than what they bargained for when they entered the council headquarters as the chairman, Rt. Hon. George Alli literally tore them apart.

“You are here to demand for what? Resource control over what? Are they coming to explore oil or what are you guys blabbing. Few days ago, the Senator Abba Moro tried to fix the road but the following day, it rain and the road become murky, same you took to social media to insult him. Now, they want to fix the road and you are here making noise. Let me warn you, if any of you disturbs the site workers, you will be treated as criminal. Take this from me,” Alli warned them.

It was gathered that the youths left shamefully and apologized to the contractors.

Confirming the development, Hon. Alli told IDOMA VOICE Friday morning the issue has been trashed out.

“It was shameful. But I lashed out at them. They don’t really know what they want. They had no choice than to apologise to the contractors because it was so bad.

“As we speak, they are moving their machines to the site and works would commence any time soon.”
