AFCON 2027 Qualifier: Guinea-Bissau Beat Nigeria 3-0

Nigeria’s Super Eagles suffered a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying match in Bissau on Tuesday.

Franculino Dju opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute before Mama Baldé doubled the advantage 21 minutes after the restart.

Álvaro Djaló completed the victory for Guinea-Bissau with a stoppage-time goal, leaving Nigeria with a heavy defeat in Group L.

Dju broke the deadlock with a curling effort into the far corner that left goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali unable to make the save.

Nigeria struggled to create clear chances in the first half, although Ademola Lookman tested Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Djoco Embadje.

Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi and Akor Adams could not find an equaliser before the break.

Coach Eric Chelle made changes at half-time, introducing Moses Simon and Moses Usor as Nigeria sought to turn the game around.

However, Baldé increased Guinea-Bissau’s lead in the 66th minute with a curling finish after cutting in from the left.

Chelle later brought on Tolu Arokodare, Victor Ilenikhena and Raphael Onyedika as Nigeria continued to search for a way back.

Ilenikhena came close to reducing the deficit, but Embadje made an important save to deny him from close range.

Guinea-Bissau held on before Djaló scored in stoppage time to seal the 3-0 victory.

The result leaves Nigeria needing to improve their position in Group L as the Super Eagles continue their campaign for a place at AFCON 2027.
