Arteta reveals how many players will leave Arsenal this summer

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that the club is set for a major reshaping this summer, with “four or five” players expected to depart as part of a broader effort to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.

Speaking after Arsenal’s narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday, Arteta underscored the need for significant changes in the upcoming transfer window, highlighting the squad’s limited depth and the importance of reinforcing key areas.

Among the players set to leave are midfielder Jorginho, who is reportedly joining Brazilian side Flamengo, and Kieran Tierney, who is expected to return to former club Celtic. Additionally, loan players Neto and Raheem Sterling are due to head back to their parent clubs—Bournemouth and Chelsea, respectively.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, who has struggled for regular playing time this season, is also believed to be among those likely to exit the Emirates this summer.

“It’s evident that we need to bring in new players because our current squad is really thin,” Arteta said. “We are anticipating the loss of four or five players whose contracts are expiring or whose loan deals are ending.”

He stressed the importance of approaching the window with care: “We must act with precision and discipline to ensure we’re ready to compete strongly next season.”

When asked about the scope of the summer changes, Arteta concluded with a touch of humor and realism: “First, we need to finish the season well, take a short break, and then trust the club’s leadership to make the right decisions during this crucial period.”
